Dendrodoris fumata

<< Previous      Next >>

This specimen was identified by Yolanda Camacho. A very similar species is Dendrodoris krebsi. This nudibranch looks almost the same as the polyclad flatworm Pseudoceros bajae, Hyman. This could be a case of Mullerian mimicry (Gosliner and Behrens, 1990).

Certain flatworms can look very similar to nudibranchs in general, since some have bright distinctive colors; however you will not find rhinophore or the distinctive outer branchia on flatworms.
